The Midnight Forest.

The Illusionarium Festival was a way to celebrate the light after the darkness, a way for the local community to engage with art in unexpected places, a shopping centre at the heart of Romford.

The Midnight Forest was built as part of Illusionarium Festival. This project was designed to help a small group of local students be involved in an artist capacity. I took the role of Lead Artist, facilitated the conception of the work and helped bring the idea to reality. The students breed was to conceptualise, budget, and build an immersive room which the public would experience that fitted the themes of ‘winter garden’ and ‘Illusion’.

The students I worked with gained confidence in themselves, using new tools and methods to create the work.

Visitors were intrigued, confused, and amazed when they encountered the space. As the duration of festival went on it became a fully booked talked experience.

The work was brave for the space in its materiality and size, however expectations of quality were exceeded phenomenally;
